Snowflakes

I was once again amazed by the wonder of four and a half-year olds. They learned to make snowflakes out of paper at Ms. Holly's on Thursday. You'd think by their excitement they had been given a million dollars or a balloon ride around the world. They came home excited, ran downstairs and started folding. They even trimmed the paper into a square first. They said, "You have to fold it 'free' (3) times mama. Then you get your scissors like this. And you can make a triangle or a square and you cut it and cut it. Then you open it up.....AND LOOK AT HOW BEAUTIFUL IT IS!" We made several that evening, but nothing was going to compare to Friday morning. All night long I heard about all the snowflakes they made at Ms. Holly's and when I went to her house in the morning and went downstairs, it was going to be like a "whole big snowstorm happened down there"!!!!! We got to Holly's the next morning, started walking down the steps and I was instructed to close my eyes and not peek. Of course I obliged. I got to the bottom and in sync they yelled, "open your eyes mama!" And there they were, 30 beautiful snowflakes hanging from the ceiling. None the same, all twirling and spinning from the air being pushed around by the jumping! Ashley and Katelyn were so proud, so excited, so inspired, so innocent, so sparkling...they lit up the room and truly warmed my heart and soul. Who knew, a snowflake, so simple, could light up your day?
