A new beginning

Day one under the belt. When you only change jobs every 14 years or so you forget just how much paperwork there is to sign on as an employee. I think I wrote my name, social security number and address at least 25 times! And I found out that if I really wanted to be rolling in the dough (at least on the front end, I'd take a nasty hit come tax time) my family and I qualify for 11 tax exemptions!!! yes, 11. Bet you didn't know you can take a whole additional exemption just for having '4 or more children'.

After all of that fun, I chased down the computer guy. I was told he would give me a name and password, show me how to log on, how to locate the server, where to save my files to and all the ins and outs of the computer. When I met him he gave me a 4 x 4 sticky note we walked over to his computer and he sat at it and said, "Your id will be first initial and last name, I'll get that set up for you with a password and to save you go to the N drive (click), go to shared (click), go to your name (click), this folder here (click) is for everyone to see, you probably don't want that one very often, except for when you do an in-service you can save your stuff here and everyone can see it, but your stuff you don't want everyone to see should go here (click), but it can also go here (click). Do you have any questions?" I thanked him and said I'll see how it goes the first time I try it.

I was given a tour of the building. There is a little coffee shop run by the students at the work center. Cute crafts, sandwiches and beverages oh and of course candy.

The secretary also showed me a massively huge copier, gave me a number and said, "If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask." So a little while later I needed to make a copy of my schedule. I put in my code number, loaded the schedule and pushed the green button. A copy came out, then another, and another and another and another (you get where I'm going with this?) in my panic I looked at the touch screen and saw '12/205 copies made' How in the...where's the abort button!? I began pushing many of them and finally the machine came to a stop and the screen showed 23/205 complete, do you wish to cancel? Ah, yes affirmative on that one! I really wasn't sure how I told the machine to make 205 copies of my schedule but was very sure I didn't need but only one. Lesson: pay attention to the touch screen!!!

I spent the next 2 hours going over student files and will go to my buildings in DeWitt in the morning so I can start putting names with faces.

I made my to-do list and was on my way home again at 3:00.

All in all a good day.

Did you get a copy expense budget...they got your number, you know you just spent that extra deduction! The school doesn't forget. Fun times.

Unfimilar road but what an adventure. Scarey at first but well worth it in the long run. Deep breaths and know that it will all work out in the end. Know that you alway get to go home at the end of the day! PRICELESS
