Do you ever have one of those days where you look back on all conversations you had and think, "Wow, I didn't know I could talk that much?" And think about all the messages we have the chance to send in any one given day, all the feelings we need to express tactfully, all the pleasantries of talking to people we barely know to fill in the gaps, the negotiations to make sure our point is known without hurting other peoples feelings, the honesty (almost rudeness) that can come out when talking about someone we disagree with or think has wronged us in some way, consolation to those that have hurt their knee or bruised their ego, encouragement to someone that they can get the work done, reassurance to the parent afraid there may be something wrong with their child, reassurance to ourselves that our child is normal, comforting words to help make the cold go away, telling ourself we completed a task and we should feel proud.
When we look back in history we recall the "great ones", Martin Luther King, Paul Revere, John F. Kennedy, Darth Vader, James Earl Jones, John Lennon, Elvis, Orson Wells, Toby Keith (ok maybe that one's just for me). Why? Because they all said something worth listening to, that we remember.
Speaking...what a gift. Talking (and listening) are cognitive tasks, when we put it on auto pilot we take a chance. Never take what you say for granted, because someone just might be listening and quote you later!
