It's ok, Mama...

I'm deciding those are probably never good words for a child use when starting a conversation. Those are ok words when commenting on spilled milk, after stubbing your toe, spilling food on an outfit, burning toast, but not when they are spoken out of the blue. As they were on Wednesday morning.

The girls and I were getting ready for an overnight to Grand Rapids and I went downstairs to tell the twins to go up and finish getting ready to go. Katelyn was over by the pool table and I told her to go upstairs now, passing quickly to the art room to turn off the light.

"It's ok, mama." She said.

"What's ok?" I reply

"It's ok I cut my hair cuz I put it in the garbage can."

I came out of the art room rather quickly. "You what??????? Where?????!!!!!"

"In there" (pointing to the art room). I went back in and looked in the garbage can, seeing a pile of hair large enough to fill a Tupperware bowl! Now I decided it was time to look more closely at my daughter. Yep, sure enough she took a handful from the right side of her head and chopped it off, about cheek level. Then I kept looking and she took another handful from the left and chopped it off at shoulder level. I wanted to cry, but didn't; I wanted to yell, but didn't; I asked why, and she didn't answer. She could probably tell I wasn't happy by the look on my face. Needless to say, we got in the car, called grandma and now have a shoulder-length hair cut that frames our face with bangs.

I finally got an answer to the "Why" and it broke my heart..."because I wanted to make my curls go away." I guess I'd better rethink straightening my hair, I must not be setting a good example!

Toodles!

Ohhh---

Good thing you looked her over before you got in the car, you might have got yourself into an accident. Just wait until one comes home with a tatoo.
